Projects: Folk Art Embroideries

We originally started this project in 2001 through our scholarship students. The women are Maya/Kaqchikel and Maya/K'iche' from the small village of Panimatzalam in the department of Sololá. They continue to produce and sell the unique folkloric embroideries which tell about their rich Maya culture. Their group is called "Artesana Maya".

These beautiful embroideries can be used as wall hangings or pillow cases. The women have had expositions in various art galleries in Antigua and they also have them for sale in stores in Antigua.

The cost of an embroidery would be $35 plus postage of $8 for a total of $43.00 and it takes approximately 2 weeks. All proceeds will go to Foundations for Education. Contact Ramelle Gonzales.
