Foundations for Education (FFE) is a 501(c)3 educational organization (EIN 65-0766271) started by Ramelle Gonzales in 1997 that has been providing scholarships to Mayan young people studying at secondary levels and helping rural communities with educational projects that are recommended by our students. All of our students do community service work.
Our objective is that our students become active members in their communities and take pride in their Maya heritage so they can build a new Guatemala, free of discimination and with justice for the Maya people.
Guatemala and Haiti are the only countries, in the Americas, that do not require university studies in order to become primary school teachers. In May of 2012, the Ministry of Education in Guatemala, announced that a 2 year bachelor degree in education will be required in order to continue 3 years of university studies to become a primary school teacher. We applaud this decision so in the future the guatemalan children will receive a more professional education.
We will continue providing scholarships to our students that are finishing their teaching studies in 11th and 12th grade until they graduate but in the future we will be providing only university scholarships. We want to be part of the future of Guatemala by assisting in the education of Maya professionals in different careers.
